Here's the current procedure of dealing with spam.
In one extreme case I added 'deny from 91.124.' (class B address block) in the apache config.

We could protect all the pages and force users the register in order to edit content, but I've been avoiding this extra hurdle to encourage participation. Alas, the spammers seem to contribute more to this wiki than most others, so I don't have any reservations enforcing registration on an add or edit.

What's the procedure for handling wiki spam?
Is it reasonable to require a login to edit a page?

Well, I can tell you how not to create a new page on the nav menu. Namely, if you create the nav link, click it, and start editing the new page, it's saved as the main wiki page. Oops.
